Chung Un Lee graduated from the University MB ChB in 1920. He was born in Chang Chow, Kiang Su (Jiangsu), China in 1894 and first matriculated in 1913. He later appeared in the prize lists with a second class certificate in Clinical Medicine.

During his time as a student he became a Committee Member of the University's Scottish-Sino Society (1915-1920) and in January 1919 was served as President. After his graduation, Chung Un Lee went on to be a Houseman (Junior Doctor) Surgeon at the Royal Samaritan Hospital for Women in Glasgow. Dr Lee was invited to return by the Peking Union Medical College, and was promoted to Associate Professor of Internal Medicine when the War broke out in 1937. Unwilling to work under Japanese occupation, Lee left Peking to build Guiyang Medical College in South China, where his significant contribution to the teaching of new medical doctors and leadership was recognised when he was appointed as the first Chinese President of Peking Union Medical College in 1947. In January 1948, the University of Glasgow awarded Lee an honorary degree of LLD also in recognition of his distinguished work and his new appointment. He graduated in absentia on 23 June 1948.

Chung Un Lee died in Kunming in 1962.

Chung Un Lee's cousin, Tsoo Hong Lee, also studied at the University.
